The station is powered by a Ambient Weather WS-2000 weather station. The data is collected every 10 seconds and the site is updated every 10 Seconds. This site and its data is collected using Weather Display Software. The station is comprised of an anemometer, a rain gauge and a thermo-hydro sensor situated in optimal positions for highest accuracy possible.
About This City
Gainesville was originally settled by the Spanish and colonists began cattle ranching in the Paynes Prairie area in the 18th Century. Gainesville is located about 75 miles Southwest of the oldest city in the United States, St. Augustine, Florida.
Gainesville was established in 1853 and named after Edmund P. Gaines. The town of Gainesville was incorporated in 1869 and chartered as a city in 1907. The University of the State of Florida was moved from Lake City to Gainesville in 1906 and its name was simplified to the University of Florida in 1909.
As the county seat of Alachua County, Gainesville is located in North Central Florida on I-75 half way between the Florida-Georgia border and Orlando. The city has a total area of 63 square miles with a dense tree canopy giving it the recognition in 1982 as "Tree City, USA" by the National Arbor Day Foundation.
